Definition and Structure: The CPU is a block copolymer formed by the reaction of polyols (soft segments) with isocyanates (hard segments). The soft segments provide flexibility, while the hard segments impart strength. By adjusting the ratio of soft to hard segments, the material’s properties can be tailored to meet specific requirements.

Preparation Process: Typically, the prepolymer method is used for synthesis. First, a polyol is reacted with an excess of isocyanate to form an NCO-terminated prepolymer. This prepolymer is then mixed with a chain extender and injected into a mold. After curing and post-curing, the product is demolded and shaped.

Performance characteristics

Wide hardness range: The hardness range is exceptionally broad, with Shore hardness adjustable from A10 to D90, allowing for a balance between softness and rigidity.

Excellent mechanical properties: Its mechanical performance—such as tear strength and abrasion resistance—is superior to that of conventional rubber, and it also boasts higher tensile strength and load-bearing capacity.

Excellent environmental resistance: It features outstanding properties such as oil resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, radiation resistance, and weatherability. Some formulations can withstand low temperatures as low as -40℃ or high temperatures up to 150℃.

High versatility: By adding additives, it can achieve special functions such as flame retardancy and wear resistance, and also exhibits excellent adhesion to other materials like metals and plastics.
